Go Ahead… Call Me Crazy.

Whenever anyone sets out to start something of their own, they are often hit with backlash from others. Perhaps it comes from friends, family or from the industry itself. Often this backlash can hinder someone from moving forward with their plans if they let it. You see, there is a desire inside all of us to be accepted. We try to look, talk and think like everyone else out there. It’s innate and human instinct to want to be accepted by everyone.

But what happens when we do this? When we try and be accepted by follow the norm and fitting in with everyone else? Well… we all become like everyone else. In order to fit in with the herd out there, we hide who we are inside. We lose that thing about us that makes us great. We lose our personality, ambitions and style. We give up our own originality and in the process become a carbon copy of what “we are supposed to be” in everyone else’s point of view. Frankly, we do this because we fear that others will think we’re nuts. We worry that others will think and call us crazy behind our backs.

I refuse to be like everyone else. So go ahead and call me crazy.

In my personal opinion, if you are afraid that of what others will think, then you are the crazy one. If you look at the greatest minds and creators of our past, you will find that they didn’t care what others thought. No one that ever did anything worth mentioning, cared about the opinions of others. They just blazed their own path for the sake of themselves and their ideas. They just created no matter what anyone said, just to make their dream a reality. They went against the grain and stood up when no one else would. Many even risked looking foolish to others just to follow their passions.

If you look at what others “want you to be” you will never get very far. In order to achieve anything revolutionary, you must step outside the box, and follow your heart no matter what. Even if others think it’s mad, crazy, silly or taboo.

Why should you lose what makes you special? Why give up the things that make you great? Why trust the opinions of others that often have no idea what they are talking about in the first place.

I can tell you why most people don’t accomplish great things that change the world. It’s because they fear what others will think. That fear rules them and determines what they become. Too many people look just alike. We are becoming a world of carbon copies. I believe that often our societies goal is to make us less crazy and conform us into their little ball.

When we were all growing up we faced the same road laid down before us. Go to school, pay an enormous sum of money to get an education and find a job and be happy with it. We are taught what to believe. How to think. It doesn’t like it when you go outside the lines or challenge this process. When you try to go off and create something different, the world rears it’s ugly head at you. You become taboo! You are outcast and maybe even deemed a madman.

When I look back at my life, those crazy moments when I stood up for what I believed or started working on my dreams, were the great ones. I don’t regret them, even If I failed at what I was trying to accomplish.

If you are out there being called crazy, you just might be on the right track.
